TLC Staff

Our director, Penni Stivers, had 25 years experience in professional child care management, an Associates in Elementary Education and a School Age CDA (Child Development Associate).

Our staff is hired based on their formal education and experience with young children. TECTA, CPR, and First Aid training are required within the first year of employment. Before employment, staff must pass a Criminal Reference Check.

We are "Three Stars"

We participate in a voluntary Star-Quality rating program with the State of Tennessee. The Star-Quality program rates child care facilities from zero to three stars. Child care providers who meet a higher standard of quality are recognized with more stars. We are proud to be a Three Star facility!TN Three Star

To maintain our Three Stars, our director, staff and program is constantly evaluated and assessed. Our staff is required to attend specialized child care classes each semester to ensure up-to-date training. On top of the many hours of classroom and professional training, we also have two preschool teachers with elementary school teaching degrees.

We follow these state licensing standards

Chapel

One of our foundational principles is putting God first in our daily lives. Chapel is led by Pastor Randy Miller.

Curriculum

We believe in the early childhood approach to our learning environment. Our centers are set up for hands-on learning. We believe that children learn best through their 5 senses and hands-on discovery. We also have a large library which provides a rich literary environment.

curriculumOur curriculum prepares students for Kindergarten with pre-reading and pre-math skills. We use Creative Curriculum along with the Christian curriculum Bright Beginnings. ‘Keeping Kids Safe’ is a personal safety curriculum we teach. It is provided by the state of Tennessee.

Most years we even have several students who leave our preschool class already reading! This year there were 5 students in our preschool class who are reading and ready for Kindergarten.

Child Guidance

At TLC, our motto is to treat others the way we want to be treated. Children are guided in a positive and consistent manner at a level that is appropriate to their actions and their ages. We do not permit physical or emotional punishment.

Any concerns the staff might have regarding your child’s behavior will be discussed with you. If you have a concern, you may request a personal conference with your child’s teacher at any time.

TLC Advisory Board

To ensure the Center follows its mission faithfully, our board advises all aspects of this ministry. The board is comprised of the director, representatives from Trinity Lutheran Church, parent representatives, along with the church treasurer.
